TEQUILA

TLAHUALIL

Crafted in the town

Sahuayo de Morelos

in the state of Michoacan

Known for its rich cultural, historical, and traditional heritage, Sahuayo is famous for the pre-Hispanic dance of the Tlahualiles.

These festivities take place in July and August to celebrate El Patron Santiago, Santiago Apostol.

Tlahualiles Warriors:

Strength and
Ritualistic Decorations

The Tlahualiles represent invincible Nahuas warriors wearing colorful feathered masks decorated with feathers, glitter, mirrors, and ornamental figures.

As a complement, they wear a velvet suit lined with handmade metal “carruchos” that create a jingling sound while dancing.

They represent the battle against

the knights of
Santiago Apostol.

Defending their territory,
identity, and blood.

In the streets of Sahuayo:

Joy and Devotion

During this celebration, the streets of Sahuayo fill with joy, dancing, and applause that encourage the Tlahualiles to continue their procession.
